United Church of Christ Theology

The United Church of Rowayton is part of the United Church of Christ (UCC). The UCC is a mainline, Protestant denomination and was formed in 1957. We have a strong, common center enriched by great diversity stemming from our roots in the Congregational Christian Church and the Evangelical and Reformed Church. The UCC is an expression of the Body of Christ in the world today. We are an AFFIRMING people, a COVENANTING people, a SEARCHING people, a WITNESSING people, and a WELCOMING people.

Within the United Church of Christ, each congregation has its own personality. Worship is at the heart of local congregational life, and from worship we are sent into the world with the empowering presence of the Holy Spirit. We believe in two sacraments: Baptism and Communion. In the UCC, Baptism can be administered to persons of any age, and we honor Baptisms from other Christian churches. Holy Communion is offered to anyone wishing to receive this sacrament.

As a church within the United Church of Christ, we at the United Church of Rowayton help people to know God’s love and care, to strengthen our faith, to build good moral foundations, to find meaning for our everyday lives, to raise children properly, to be aware of the needs of others in our community and world, and to work for justice and peace in our communities and the world.

We wanted a church where our daughter could learn about spirituality and [we could] be a part of something greater than ourselves.
